Description
The Holy Martyrs Paul, Chionia (Keonia), and Thea (Alevtina/Valentina) are commemorated on July 16. During the fierce persecution of Christians under Emperor Maximian, these courageous believers from Egypt were brought to Caesarea in Palestine.
Rather than deny Jesus Christ, they boldly confessed the Christian faith before their persecutors. Their witness ended in martyrdom: Chionia and Thea were burned alive, while Saint Paul was beheaded in the year 308.
Their brief but powerful testimony reminds us that the early Church was built upon the blood of faithful witnesses who valued eternal life above earthly comfort. Their steadfast confession continues to inspire Christians to remain faithful amid trials and persecution.
May the Holy Martyrs Paul, Chionia, and Thea intercede for us, that we may confess Christ courageously in every age.
