The Long Echo is delighted to present Sankō, the new single from Dutch composer and producer Joris Feiertag, known to listeners under his artistic moniker Bunraku. Following the acclaimed Toshi series, most recently Toshi III (2024), Sankō finds Bunraku returning to the slow, atmospheric, and luminous neoclassical world that has become his signature, distilling its expansiveness into a single, beautifully understated meditation.
True to the spatial sensibility that runs through his work, Sankō feels like a place rather than a piece, somewhere to step into and stay a while. Nostalgic pianos drift in gentle loops, their phrases folding back on themselves like water turning over stone, while a quiet chorus of crickets and the soft texture of a forest at dusk settle into the mix. There is an intimacy here that sits askew, an introspection that resists resolution; melodies seem to wander slightly out of time with one another, lending the track its unhurried, dreamlike pulse.
Sankō is music made for lingering, the sonic equivalent of sitting beside a forest creek and watching the light change, content to let the moment unfold at its own pace. In its quiet way, the single reaffirms what has long defined Bunraku's output: an ability to render physical space in sound, and to make the smallest gestures feel infinite.
