Post-match press conference with England head coach Steve Borthwick and captain Jamie George after England’s 45-21 defeat to South Africa at Ellis Park in the Nations Championship.
South Africa scored through Thomas du Toit, Cheslin Kolbe, Kurt-Lee Arendse, Grant Williams, Jesse Kriel, Malcolm Marx and Ben-Jason Dixon, with Kolbe adding five conversions. England’s tries came from Ellis Genge, George Martin and Alex Coles, with Fin Smith converting all three.
Borthwick reflects on South Africa’s contestable kicking, England falling 17-0 behind, the yellow cards for Tommy Freeman and Guy Pepper, and the challenge of facing the world champions. George says England believed they could win, felt the game was in the balance after their first-half comeback, but were left frustrated by discipline and fine margins.
Borthwick also gives an update on George Furbank after appendix surgery.
