What does a £500 million processing site mean for British farming? 🐄🐑
At today’s Farmers Weekly Transition ‘Beyond the Farm Gate’ event, we visited @KepakGroup's Merthyr site to see the scale of one of the UK's largest meat processing operations firsthand.
📍 Around 2,000 cattle and 8,000 sheep are processed here every week.
📍 The site generates around £500 million in annual turnover.
📍 80% of that value – around £400 million – flows back into the local economy through farmers, jobs, packaging and distribution.
The message is clear: a strong, transparent supply chain is vital to ensuring value is returned to farmers and rural communities.
