The Ancients are perhaps the most obscure cult-like British art movement - who tackled themes as broad as spirituality, art history and industrialisation.
By rendering their longing for a time before factories and cities carpeted the English landscape, the Ancients expressed their moral and philosophical rejection of their times. They saw industrial society as a symptom of materialism, where industrial capitalism woefully detached people from a spiritual experience found in the landscape and traditional community.
