Auf, auf, mein Herz, mit Freuden - recorded here for All of Bach with tenor Daniel Johannsen and organist Leo van Doeselaar on the famous Bader organ - is a song from the Gesangbuch by Schemelli. For this songbook for private devotion he involved the probably most famous music consultant of all time, who happened to be his son’s music teacher: Bach. For BWV 441 Bach used the harmony and melody of church composer Johann Crüger. The result: a radiant piece about Christ’ triumph over death.
