Product Overview
The Avios Tundra series of STOL sports planes has enjoyed a massive following over the years, and rightfully so, as it has been one of the best flying RC foam planes ever designed. They have an impressive flight envelope with an amazing STOL performance, and all this is coupled with a great-looking plane. The original 1300mm Tundra RC plane was followed sometime later with the launch of the 1700mm Grand Tundra from Hobbyking, which encompassed all your favorite features but on a larger scale. This was then followed by the Grand Tundra Plus version, which kept all the original features but had improved wing servo connectors to give a stronger and more reliable connection.
We now take yet another leap forward to the 1700mm Grand Tundra 2. Like all things that evolve, there are areas that, over time, could do with a slight improvement. So, after listening to our customers and pilots, and from our own experiences, the GT2 was born, and it is better than ever. It is now a 6S setup as standard, the tail wheel has been redesigned and strengthened, the main tundra wheels have pneumatic rubber tires, it has a removable plywood battery tray with spring-loaded latch (for quick battery changes), hex-head screws all round, and a new profile, more efficient glass-filled nylon 15x8 propeller. The color scheme has also changed; it is a new, striking design in green and silver.
Last but not least is an addition, the day bright LED lights have always been a feature of the Tundra series, but the GT2 now has a switch unit included for the twin landing lights. Using a separate channel on your radio system, you can switch the landing light on/off at will, and if you use a 3-position switch, you can even have them flashing. Please note that the nav lights are not part of this circuit and stay on all the time as before. Finally, a 4S setup can still be used, but you will need to change the supplied 15x8 propeller for a 16x8 (not supplied).
With the Grand Tundra 2 from Hobbyking, you can still enjoy short take-offs and landings using its huge 90-degree flaps, wing vortex generators, and the large tundra-style wheels. It also includes the revolutionary Aerostar RVS (reverse function system) G2 ESC. This ESC offers instantaneous reversing, so there is no need to stop the prop before reversing. This makes it perfect when flying with the optional floats set for maneuvering on the water, but it is also great fun for very short landing runs, solidifying its status as a top stol rc plane.
The tough EPO foam construction is beautifully finished, and being "Plug N Fly", the Grand Tundra 2 is supplied with a powerful and reliable 2nd generation SK3 5055-500KV brushless motor, the Aerostar RVS G2 80A brushless ESC, 4 17g high-quality digital MG servos, and 2 high-quality digital 9g MG servos. Also included are ball-linked control rods, a glider tow point, an optional domed spinner nut, and an optional FPV cockpit tray. Attach a camera of your choice and put yourself in the pilot's seat for a truly epic ride.
