Description
For the last fifty years NAIDOC week celebrations have been held across Australia in the first week of July to recognise First Nations culture and the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We live in a huge continent and there are some 250+ different nations contained within. Acknowledging Country is a simple way to show respect to Traditional Owners and their ongoing connection to Country. A great resource available for use is Indigenous.gov.au’s Community finder: https://www.indigenous.gov.au/community
This year for NAIDOC week, thanks to contrinbuting filmmaker Louie Fordham, we travel up to the northern most islands of Australia. Here in the Torres Strait, on Waiben or Thursday Island, traditional home to the Kaurareg Aboriginal people, we get to see a Baha’i elder named Aunty Nay share about art as worship.
