In this video, we unpack the growing debate between Foundational Black Americans, Black immigrants, Africans, Caribbeans, and the wider Black diaspora. The term “tether” has become part of the conversation around FBA, lineage, immigration, reparations, representation, culture, and whether non-FBA Black people are being used to speak over or weaken Black American political interests.
But is that really what is happening?
Are Black immigrants actually undermining FBA, or are we allowing social media, stereotypes, historical pain, and misunderstanding to create unnecessary division among Black people? Can Black Americans protect our specific lineage and political claims without turning every African, Caribbean, or Black immigrant into an enemy?
This conversation looks at the tension honestly. We discuss reparations, Black American identity, diaspora relationships, immigrant success, cultural misunderstandings, media narratives, and why collaboration may be more powerful than conflict.
Black Americans have a specific history in the United States that must be respected. But Black immigrants are not automatically the problem. The real question is whether we can tell the truth about our differences without being manipulated into fighting each other.
