DIY Doughnuts...you're gonna just LOVE!! Delicious APPLE CIDER CAKE DOUGHNUT smothered with MAPLE GLAZE...perfect for dipping in your coffee, tea, milk or NOT!! ENJOY!! :)
APPLE CIDER CAKE DOUGHNUTS w/ MAPLE GLAZE
1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
1/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg
1 egg
3 Tablespoons butter, melted
1 cup apple cider
1. Add apple cider to small sauce pan, over medium-heat, bring to boil; cook until apple cider as reduced to half (making 1/2 cup), about 15 minutes. Cool completely.
2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk both flours, spices, baking soda, baking powder, salt and sugar together. Set aside.
3. In a small mixing bowl, whisk cooled apple cider, butter and egg. Slowly add mixture to dry ingredient; stir with fort until just blended. Cover dough and refrigerate for 1 hour or more.
4. Add chilled dough to lightly floured surface; pat dough to a 1/2-inch thickness; cut with floured 3-inch round cookie cutter. Use a smaller 1-inch cookie cutter to make hole in center or doughnut.
5. Heat oil in 12-inch frying pan, over medium to medium-low heat (heat oil to 365 degrees F if using a thermometer or electric skillet). Fry a few doughnuts at a time, 1 to 1 1/2 minutes on each side of until golden and cooked through. Drain on cooling rack or paper towels.
6. Dip doughnut in glaze, if desired.
MAPLE GLAZE
1 cup powder sugar
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 tablespoon buttermilk or milk
1/2 teaspoon maple flavoring
Whisk all 4 ingredients together. If glaze is too thick add a little more liquid. Add more powder sugar it glaze is too thin.
Make 6 donuts with holes
