In this critique, I reviewed Rex’s latest character artwork - and while we did touch on anatomy (including fixing the alignment of her character’s leg), the main focus was on something that can make or break your artwork: the background.
I roughly sketched in a new background around her character, showing how to design an environment that frames your subject and supports the overall composition. We talked about how the right background can guide the viewer’s eye, create depth, and bring your characters to life in a more believable space.
I also shared my process for coming up with background ideas, from simple shapes and silhouettes to more detailed builds. Whether you struggle with backgrounds or just want to make your compositions stronger, this critique is packed with practical tips you can apply right away.
