Southwest Captain Charles ”Chuck” Axtell’s great uncle, SSGt Loring Lord, was killed in action over Germany on March 21, 1945, when his aircraft was shot down. He was missing for nearly 80 years until his remains were discovered in September 2024. Captain Axtell is now honored with flying the Southwest plane that is bringing SSGt Lord to his final resting place in Massachusetts, proving that it’s never too late to go home.
