Description
This week we’re assembling the amazing Little Mountain Timber Fn3 handcar kit that I picked up on eBay.
We’re temporarily deviating from work on the roundhouse and turntable—on instructions from my doctor. For what it’s worth, I’ve been dealing with some severe back problems lately. I’m losing some use of my left leg and dealing with quite a bit of pain. No point going into all the details, but some of you may have noticed that I’ve been losing weight lately. That’s intentional—I need to take some load off my back.
I recently had a minor back surgery to help with the pain. So far, so good. But the bottom line is that, for now, I’m limited in what I can do out on the railroad. So I’m focusing on projects at the workbench for a while.
First up is this great kit from Little Mountain Timber. It sells for $59.95—okay, sixty bucks—and it’s worth every penny.
This week we’ll work through the assembly and the first round of paint with the airbrush. Next week we’ll finish up with final paint, weathering, and installing the working Dietz lantern.
After that, we’ll move on to the Little Mountain Timber speeder kit.
Then we’ll build a small handcar set-out building near the sand house, with another lamp or two for good measure.
And if my back is up for it, we’ll get “back” to the roundhouse floor.
