Description

Do not neglect this service even if the fluid looks good, especially when the car has been stored for over 5 years. I will show you things you can adjust and external components you can inspect, the quantity and type of fluid, and my rapid fill technique.

In this video, this service was done on a 1972 280SE with a 4.5 V8. Check out the condition of this transmission. Watch all the videos in this W108 series: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtRKk64pu2wqq2r8I2nvGu22tFmBNLAPl

This is the 722.0 transmission, which was installed in most of the Mercedes Benz V8 passenger cars during the 1970s. It is a three-speed transmission and ruggedly built. So if it is maintained properly with regular service, you can expect long-term reliability, but if you don't change the filter and fluid at regular intervals, the seals will harden and you will begin to have leaks and shifting problems in this video. I will mention the reverse band adjustment, but I do not give any details. I will be doing another video on that subject in the future and will post a link here when completed.
