Description
Watch the running of the 8th annual Darlington Southern 500 held on September 2, 1957. The race took 5 hours to complete at an average speed of 100.094 mph. At the time it was the fastest 500 miles ever run in American Stock Car racing.
The race was marred by a spectacular crash involving Billy Myers, Fonty Flock, and Paul Goldsmith. Bobby Myers tragically died in the crash and Fonty Flock was also injured and would announce his retirement from his hospital bed.
