Credit card utilization is the percentage of your available credit that you’re using. In this quick video, learn what it means and the ideal goal to aim for if you want to keep your credit score healthy.
Key things to know about credit card utilization:
—Your credit card utilization is how much of your card spending limit you're using.
—When credit card utilization gets too high, it can pull your credit score down.
—It's best to use less than 30% of your credit limit — lower is better!
—To decrease your credit utilization, pay down your card (making payments more than once a month can really help).
—You could also ask for a credit limit increase to improve your utilization ratio. Just know that your request could result in a hard credit inquiry, which could hurt your scores a bit temporarily.
