What if Star Trek already predicted the modern crisis we’re living through? In DS9’s “Past Tense,” homelessness, inequality, and capitalism collide in one of the franchise’s most prophetic stories.

Many thanks to Trekcore for their documentation of all things Trek. Many of the screenshots we used were captured by this necessary and meticulous website.
A large solar system-sized thank you goes to Leo Thompson and Garrett Wang over at Dragon Con’s Trek Track. Dragon Con’s Trek Track is where this topic was first tested against real, live humans
This essay was written by Kyle Sullivan, with input from Walter Greason, Ann Elizabeth Montgomery, Mischa Fisher, Hypatia, and Brandon Fibbs. Any detail that is exacting and correct is probably down to these people. Any detail that is terribly wrong and erroneous is completely Kyle’s fault.
And a quadrant-sized special thanks to our patrons, who make all of this possible. Michael Goggin, Paul Laker, Oliver Mains, Tom Osborne, Ian Candish, Kevin Yank, Engineer-In-Heels, and all the rest of y’all who love and support Trekspertise. Thank you!
Most of the "abstract" b-roll is footage captured by Kyle Sullivan. Additional camera work by William Schweikert (drone of the Florida Keys - section 4).
A few screenshots were acquired via film-grab.com. Specifically for the 2013 film, “Snowpiercer,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” & “The Hunger Games.”
“Snowpiercer” - Directed by Bong Joon-ho, Moho Film / Opus Pictures, 2013 “Mad Max: Fury Road” - Directed by Geoge Miller, Warner Bros. Pictures / Village Roadshow Pictures “The Hunger Games” - Directed by Gary Ross, Lionsgate / Color Force
Additional thanks to the Daystrom Institute subreddit, a place dedicated to Star Trek discussion, and to www.memoryalpha.com, a Star Trek wiki. And to Trekcore, a treasure among Trek fans everywhere.
