I examine how the abundance of elements in the Universe and Earth's crust influences their value and availability. The video explains why precious metals such as gold and rhodium are so rare, and how meteorite impacts helped enrich Earth's crust with these elements. I also look at the surprising abundance of radioactive metals like uranium and thorium compared to some precious metals. Finally, I explain why thorium remains one of the most common radioactive elements on Earth despite its enormous age.
