For the final stop of the Carolina’s trip, I’m in Charlotte, North Carolina, at Mac’s Speed Shop taking on their massive “Fat Boy” Sandwich Challenge!
Mac's Speed Shop is a popular Carolina-born barbecue restaurant that combines slow-smoked meats, burgers, sandwiches, and classic Southern food with a relaxed motorcycle garage atmosphere. Known for smoking their brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and chicken fresh every day, they’ve built a following thanks to heavy portions, house-made sauces, and a menu packed with good ole BBQ comfort food.
The “Fat Boy” Challenge features a BBQ sandwich built on a very dense one-pound sourdough loaf. Stuffed inside are two half-pound burger patties, a half-pound of pulled pork, a half-pound of Texas brisket, six strips of bacon, 8 ounces of queso, 12 fried pickles, 6 ounces of French fries, coleslaw, and 1.5 ounces of their Burnout sauce. On the side, you’ll also have to finish a half-pound of mac & cheese. If you can finish everything within one hour, you’ll earn the $77 meal for free, a T-shirt, and a spot on Mac’s Hall of Fame.
