When Amflow launched the new PX Carbon Pro with the Avinox M2S motor our only real concern with this new e–bike was range. In fact, one look at the numbers instantly gave us range anxiety and it’s easy to see why.

The Avinox M2S motor pumps out an impressive 1,500 watts peak power and 130Nm of torque in Turbo mode, which is double the power output of the current Bosch CX motor that we range tested on the Whyte Kado.

Even the Mahle M40 motor, which matched the 850watts of the original Avinox M1 motor when it launched two years ago on the Amflow PL Carbon, is still considered mid-power when compared to the mighty Avinoix M2S motor.

But Amflow didn’t simply increase the power of the new PX Carbon, it also reduced the battery capacity from 800Wh to 700Wh, making it a double whammy for range. So this bike could be going nowhere, fast. Given that bikes like the Gen 4 Specialized Turbo Levo come stock with massive 840Wh batteries.

That’s not the whole story however. Because buried deep in the launch material of the latest Amflow were claims of improved battery and motor efficiency, but could these be enough to offset the jump in power and torque?
Only one way to find out, and that’s a real world range test. So we headed back to the Forest of Dean, fitted our Maxxis control tyres, charged the battery to 100% and selected Turbo mode before hitting the trails at a blistering speed.
And, much to our surprise, the Amflow PX Carbon Pro with the Avinox M2S motor and 700Wh battery delivered an impressive 1,443m of vertical, which put it straight into 4th position on the leader board just behind the Shimano EP8 equipped Canyon Spectral:ON.

Which is even more impressive given that the three bikes that beat it all had 800Wh or higher battery capacities and all had less than half the power output of the Amflow PX. Mind-blowing, right?
