🚑 The evaluation begins with the fundamental ABC assessment, which stands for airway, breathing, and circulation.
🗣️ While a patient who is actively speaking indicates a currently patent airway, they are still at risk for future airway obstruction.
⚠️ Clinicians must look closely for immediate danger signs, such as swelling or edema in the face or the pharynx.
🤮 Additional signs of airway compromise include the presence of blood, vomit, or foreign material.
👂 By listening with the naked ear, any audible or noisy breathing must be recognized as obstructed breathing—and the louder it gets, the more concerned you should be!
