Hoover’s “Photographic Albums Revealed”: Looking Back And Ahead

In conjunction with Eastern Europe and Beyond: Photographic Albums Revealed, the Hoover Institution Library & Archives hosted a webinar with its foremost curator and Visiting Fellow Edward Kasinec on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Zoom.

Related archival materials were on display in the Lou Henry Hoover Gallery in Hoover Tower at Stanford University from September 9, 2025 – May 10, 2026. The exhibition was visited by tens of thousands, both on-site and virtually. In his presentation, exhibition lead curator and bibliographer Edward Kasinec reflects on his inspiration for the exhibit, the methodological and practical issues in its implementation, and plans for future work with the still understudied visual and art holdings at the Hoover Institution Library & Archives.

Edward Kasinec holds graduate degrees and certificates from Columbia University (M.A., 1968, M.Phil., 1979), Simmons College (M.L.S., 1976), and New York University (Appraisal Studies in Fine and Decorative Arts, 2010). His career includes appointments as Librarian & Archivist for the Harvard University’s Ukrainian Research Institute (1973-80); Librarian for Slavic Collections, University of California, Berkeley (1980-84); and Curator, Slavic and Baltic Division, The New York Public Library (1984-2009). He is presently a Research Associate, Harriman Institute, Columbia University and, since 2015, Visiting Fellow, Hoover Institution. In addition to wide travel and consulting assignments, Kasinec has authored (or co-authored) many publications as well as twelve successful grant proposals to national funding agencies.

This event was moderated by Lauren Covetta.
