Please like and subscribe. This video explains how the ridiculously fun Christmas present I made for my niece works. The vocals are based on her original song, and I added some spicey sound effects. Hah! A 'Voice Playback Module' makes sounds based on button presses. There's an internal speaker (3 watt, 4 ohm) and 6 AA battery pack with a buck voltage converter to step the power down to 5V for the Voice Playback Module. In person, the audio is really good. My husband said he couldn't tell from the other room if I was singing in real life or if it was the Silly Sound Song Box. I hope my niece likes it. I laughed until I cried playing with it myself!

I don't have access to my AV gear right now, so this was completely recorded on my phone. The Voice Playback Module only has 1 speaker output, so mono files are best for wiring it to a speaker as I did. I recorded the audio samples as mono .wav files on my Android phone using an app called RecForge. I moved the file to my Windows computer and chopped it into individual samples using Audacity, which is a free software. I removed all the empty space at the start and end of the samples and saved them each with a special name. The samples must be named with four zeros preceding the sample number like 00001.wav, 00002.wav, etc. or else the Voice Playback Module won't play them. You can also use mp3 format files. From here, I copied the audio samples to a microSD card, insert the card into the Voice Playback Module, and off I went. When you press the button connected to the first sensor input, the first sample plays and so on. Magic!
The speaker in the project is attached with wood screws on the inside front wall of the box. Keep your speaker firmly attached to avoid rattling.
The buttons I used are momentary buttons which means they don't latch. They must be 'normally open' buttons so that they only connect to ground when pressed.
The video was recorded on my Samsung Galaxy phone and edited on my computer in kdenlive, which is a free software for Windows. Sorry about the sibilance pops. I was doing my best with none of my gear on hand.
