Leonid Slonimskiy & Artem Kitaev (KOSMOS) AAD Arguments

Leonid Slonimskiy & Artem Kitaev, founding partners of KOSMOS, will deliver the lecture “Never Permanent” for AAD Arguments. Xiaoxi Chen will provide the introduction and be joined by Barry Wark and AAD students to provide a response following the presentation and host a Q&A session.

KOSMOS is an architectural practice with offices in Zürich and Graz, which collaborates virtually across borders. The work of KOSMOS encompasses urban, architectural, and object design, as well as research and art installation, addressing environmental and social challenges. Through experimentation with materials and construction techniques, KOSMOS explores the spatial and visual parameters of architecture to define its contemporary meaning. Leveraging expertise in diverse geographical contexts and projects of varying scales and types, along with a blend of practice and academic experience, KOSMOS proposes opportunities for enhancing the built environment.

Considering the architect’s role as the “curator of spaces and materials in time,” KOSMOS explores the relationship between architecture and temporality: the ways buildings and their elements can be continuously adapted and reinterpreted to meet evolving needs.

KOSMOS won the “Prix de Geneve” Award for Best Experimental Architecture in Geneva, was nominated for the Swiss Art and Design Awards, got selected as the “Best New Practice” by Archdaily and one of the “New European Generation” practices by “Architecture d’Aujour d’hui” and received many professional mentions and prizes.

Organized by the MS in Advanced Architectural Design program as part of the AAD Arguments Lecture Series.
